This is not a sponsored post. Can you please tell me if you soak the dates first? If your dates are very dry, however, soaking would be ideal for blending! Aw thank you so much!! Excited to try this recipe! To the previous commenter: I would recommend toasting the oats first — it really adds to the flavor! Hey, love your blog! Do you think it would turn out ok if I just added a zucchini too or would i need to change any of the ingredients? Aw thank you Angie! Just tried this recipe for my husband today and he loved it!!! He ate half of it as soon as he got home from work.

Or some other kind of flavor? I am making another batch of the banana bread tonight. Haha, that sounds like something Chris would do. I am not a hundred percent certain as I have not tried that out, but I have in fact read from other blogs of different substitutions and pumpkin and banana mashes are often used for the same purposes so I think it will work!! I tried this recipe this morning and I love it!!! I added orange zest and dark choc chunks… amazing!

I love your blog! I have a question.. How many dates is one cup? Is that one cup before or after they are chopped? Thank you for sharing!!! I actually do not have the nutritional data for this recipe, sorry for that!

This is in the oven right now… I used spelt flour instead of oat and I added some nutmeg and ginger.. Taking some to school tomorrow for breakfast alongside a green smoothie! It was the perfect color and texture on top, but the middle and bottom were still mushy. Do you know why this is? I followed the recipe given without any extra additions. Was your pan the same size? Different ovens, climates, ingredients will vary unfortunately, such as size of bananas, date number, etc. So sorry about that! I found that as well. I made it again with part buckwheat flour made my own with the oats in my Vitamix and cooked it an extra 20 minutes and it seems to be a bit better.

Might even do more buckwheat next time. Should I put them in the freezer? Thanks again for the amazing recipe! I think it is genius you made this recipe into muffins- I would love to try! Did you have to adjust the recipe at all or cooking time to make them? Aw thanks so much. Hopefully they turn out just as good: Keep up the good work? Many people have had success with them as muffins, myself included, so I hope that your experience was the same! This is honestly one of the best things I have ever baked!!! I love this recipe! Made myself muffins am with pecans and a bread for my uncle.

This is a keeper. The dates go so well with the bananas and I love not using any of that other junk. I NEED to try this out! Let me know, thank you!! Check on it at that time with a toothpick to see if it comes out clean, and if not, you can try ! I forgot I had one more question, is flax seed powder the same as flax seed meal?

Using unsweetened almond milk and three bananas, not four, the entire loaf is about calories not accounting for nuts or other additions.

If you cut it into eighths, each slice will be cal. Dates are really expensive here so I was wondering if the recipe would still turn out if I used coconut sugar or maple syrup? Maybe try half and half? I made this last night and it is delicious!!! This is an amazing recipe: Jasmine, does it work the same if i use some sort of sweetener or sugar, and whole wheat flour?

This bread is so fab! Thanks for the recipe.. Hi Jasmine, I just wanted to say that I love you, your vlogs and blog so much! They can be stored in the fridge for a week or so. These dates squares are a healthier take on traditional dates squares. These are a guaranteed holiday hit and if you thought date squares were boing and usually left behind on the dessert tray, these ones are sure to change your mind. Dear Deryn, I made these bars yesterday and they did not hold together at all. Any ideas what what I could have done wrong? I used the exact measurements and let them cool down completely. And the dough tasted great….

Or is the oat flor made from the 3 cups of oats? My husband and I are making these for the second time this week, we love them so much! Thanks for a great dessert recipe! We love your blog Deryn! I absolutely loved the crumble before I baked it, and the consistency was excellent, but my bars also did not hold together at all. Your email address will not be published. Drain the dates and then use your hands to mash them into a paste. This is a bit messy so if you prefer, you can blend them. Evenly spread the date paste over the crust layer in the pan. Press the rest of the crumble on top of the date layer. Bake for 40 minutes then let them cool completely in the pan.
